Lessons From Coffee
I love coffee and a good hot cup on a cold early morning, mmmmm warms you, wakes you, tastes good and just plain hits the spot.
Now whether you go to Starbucks or McDonalds when they give you a hot cup of coffee they will put a plastic spill lid on it to keep you from getting burned, but here's the thing, the dominant experience to our taste includes our sense of smell, so if you really want to get the full experience from that cup of coffee, you need to risk getting burned and take the lid off.
I have found the same is true in our relationships with people, the closer we get, the greater our chances of getting burned. Now we can play it safe and keep the lid on, but we will never fully enjoying all that comes with a relationship.
